Nearly 500 admitted patients were waiting for beds in hospitals around the country on Tuesday.

Figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) show University Hospital Limerick accounts for the largest number of those with 81, followed by both University Hospital Galway and Sligo University Hospital, with 53 each.

Of the total number of people on trolleys, 309 are waiting in emergency departments while 186 are in wards elsewhere.
