Manchester United have already begun their hunt for a new permanent manager for next season, and Jason Wilcox is said to be ‘thrilled’ with one candidate in particular, according to TEAMtalk.
The Red Devils sacked Ruben Amorim in January after 14 months in charge and a string of poor performances and results, which has seen former midfielder Michael Carrick brought in on an interim basis until the end of the season. He has won five of his six games in charge, drawing the other, and the team sit fourth in the Premier League table, just three points off third.
The club are understood to have a number of candidates in mind for the role, but there have also been some bumps in the road already.
Man Utd Won’t Appoint Tuchel

One name who was understood to be right at the top of their list of options was Thomas Tuchel, with the German understood to be open to taking over at Old Trafford had the opportunity arisen.
However, after being approached by the FA to extend his contract as England manager, Tuchel has now penned a deal until 2028 which has taken him off the managerial market for Man Utd.
It’s believed that Tuchel will eventually return to club management, but he will be in charge of England until Euro 2028 at least if everything goes to plan. Carlo Ancelotti, another manager who was linked, is also expected to pen an extension with Brazil, taking him to 2030, and that will see him also become unavailable for the job.
Man Utd Bosses ‘Thrilled’ With Carrick

With the search on for alternative candidates, it’s understood that Man Utd’s hierarchy, including director of football Jason Wilcox, are ‘thrilled’ with the performance of Carrick and the team since his arrival.
The team are currently on their best run of results of the season, having claimed wins over Man City, Arsenal, and Everton in recent weeks in some difficult fixtures.
Carrick has openly admitted that he would love to take the job permanently if it was available to him, but his focus at the moment is on doing the best he can for the remainder of this season.
But while Carrick was initially just seen as a stop-gap option, if results continue it’s highly likely that he will be considered for the full-time role, although Man Utd are adamant they won’t make any decisions until all their options have been discussed and analyzed in the summer.
Who Should Be Next Man Utd Manager?

While Carrick is seemingly in the driver’s seat for the job, GIVEMESPORT asked ChatGPT who should be the next Man Utd manager, and this was its response:
Xabi Alonso — Proven elite tactician with a clear, modern identity; improves structure in and out of possession; strong leadership presence; experience handling big expectations; best blend of long-term project builder and immediate competitiveness.
