Dermot Kennedy made a surprise appearance on RTÉ 2FM Breakfast with Carl, Roz and Aisling this morning, winning big for Barretstown on the show’s A to Z quiz.
During the show, presenter Carl Mullan teased a mystery text from a celebrity guest looking to take part in the show’s A to Z quiz.
As the segment began, co-presenter Roz Purcell introduced the mystery guest, who replied: “It’s Dermot Kennedy.”
The Dublin singer-songwriter, who said he listens to the show “anytime I’m at home”, was put through the programme’s usual quick-fire questions before the quiz, telling the presenters he is from Rathcoole, and when asked what he does for the craic, joking: “Just a few pints on the weekend.”
Kennedy then pledged to support the charity Barretstown before the quiz got under way, saying: “If I win… I’ll double that and send €20,000 to Barretstown.”

Kennedy went on to complete the A to Z quiz, winning €10,000, and he matched it with €10,000 of his own money to bring the total donation to €20,000.
After the result was confirmed, he said: “I feel good, man. I feel good.”
He added that he was relieved not to “disgrace” himself, joking that “the Yaris nearly got me” when asked about the trickiest answer.
Barretstown provides free camps and programmes for children and families affected by cancer and other serious illnesses, with accommodation, food and medical support provided at no cost to families.
RTÉ 2FM Breakfast with Carl, Roz and Aisling is on weekday mornings from 6am – 9am.
