LOS ANGELES (WJW) — Christina Applegate has multiple sclerosis (MS). Living with the nerve disorder means she has extreme pain much of the time. She’s described the disease as awful.
She recently spoke candidly with People Magazine about her health journey since her diagnosis in 2021.
The 54-year-old said she often stays in bed most of the day. Taking her kid to school and other activities pushes her.

“I want to take [15-year-old Sadie]; it’s my favorite thing to do. It’s the only time we have together by ourselves,” Applegate told People about her daughter. “I tell myself, ‘Just get her there safely and get home so you can get back into bed.’ And that’s what I do.”

The “Married … With Children” and “Dead to Me” actress is still working, just in a different capacity — letting people with MS know they are not alone, even if they, too, are confined to their beds much of the time.
She’s launching a new platform for others to tell their stories —“Next in MS” — and has a podcast called “MeSsy.” She also wrote a memoir, which is coming out next month, describing her Laurel Canyon childhood and what it was like to be in the spotlight at such a young age.

“We all have come from somewhere, some places more painful than others, and it’s what you do with it, I guess,” Applegate told People. “This is not an inspirational book, by any means. But it can inspire.”
