Zack Snyder finally opens up about James Gunn’s Superman movie.
In a new interview with the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Snyder commented on Gunn’s Superman installment from 2025, while also looking forward to Man of Tomorrow, which will start filming this year. Snyder stated, “James’ Superman, which is amazing and all the best to them, and I can’t wait to see the next movie, and it’s just awesome.”
When he was asked if there was anything that he thought when seeing the Superman movie that he believed only Gunn could do in that way that he appreciated, Snyder shared, “Of course, James is singular in his storytelling, in his ability to channel mythological and pop culture into what I would consider just iconic and very particular point of view that’s both poignant and funny.”
He concluded with, “He’s the best at it that I can think of, and I think that he’s a great steward of that world. So, you know, that’s good. That’s great for fans.”
The Man of Tomorrow movie will see David Corenswet’s Superman and Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor putting their differences aside, as they face the arrival of Brainiac. The iconic villain will be brought to life by Lars Eidinger, as this will be the first time a live-action DC film features the major antagonist.
While there are no official plans for Snyder to return to the DC brand anytime soon, the filmmaker has previously said that he would still love to do a full-on adaptation of Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns. He stressed that it would have to be “a true representation of the graphic novel,” and it would not be either Ben Affleck’s or Henry Cavill’s versions of the characters from the DCEU.
Superman is available through home media release and streaming, while Man of Tomorrow is scheduled to open in theaters on July 9, 2027.
