Jessie Buckley continued her pivot away from the romantic and polished looks of her Hamnet press campaign, stepping out in a risque and edgy gown for the premiere of her latest film last night.

Appearing at the world premiere of The Bride!, her newest project directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal and co-starring Christian Bale as Frankenstein’s monster, Buckley once again opted for an outfit that touched on the punk aesthetic of the film, in which she plays the Bride of Frankenstein wreaking havoc in 1930s Chicago.

Styled as always by Danielle Goldberg, Buckley chose a sheer black sleeveless gown by Maison Margiela, which was worn over a peach coloured bra and underwear, her waist cinched in by a nude corset.

The outfit was Look 13 from John Galliano’s Maison Margiela Artisanal spring/summer 2024 show, his final collection for the fashion house and a highpoint in recent fashion history.

The show took place beneath the Pont Alexandre III in Paris and enchanted fashion fans and non-fashion fans alike with his depiction of seedy, mystical and waiflike characters who stalked around in deconstructed designs.

Speaking to Vogue ahead of the premiere, Buckley said that the collection – and specifically its makeup looks created by Pat McGrath – was an inspiration for the costuming in The Bride!, pointing to the pale makeup and translucent quality of the beauty looks.

Last night, Buckley finished her look with strappy black heels from Christian Louboutin, diamond drop earrings and her short blonde bob styled into a slicked back look.
