This weekend will start off frosty, with wet and blustery conditions over Saturday and Sunday before things begin to brighten up during the first week of March

While this weekend is due to be cold and wet, there are some brighter days on the horizon.
March will bring the meteorological beginning of spring, and with it, forecasters predict bright conditions with sunny spells by the end of its first week. One forecaster even predicted that temperatures will begin to rise up into the teens for a time, as Met Eireann predicts highs of 12 degrees at the moment.
However, Friday night will first see lows of -2 degrees, with a frosty start to Saturday morning. The weekend is due to be wet and a little blustery, before things brighten up.
Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather shared a new forecast: “We have a nice night ahead but it will be frosty getting down to minus one or minus two degrees under clear skies and a nice bright sunny start to Saturday. Good sunrise ahead, looking forward to that.”
“We will though, as you can see here, have cloud moving in from the west and also some showers. Now that rain will move across, not too heavy but still wet and then we will see more rain coming on Saturday night into Sunday morning. On Sunday though, it’s not a pretty day. It’s going to be wet, especially in the west and the south west, but rain really many parts of the country for many parts of the day and it will be heaviest in the south-west where over 40 millimetres is possible.”
He added that Sunday and Monday may be windy, especially Sunday evening: “There will also be strong wind on Sunday, very windy on Sunday and also on Monday but especially Sunday evening with that rain and wind it’s going to be a very rough evening and late evening especially Sunday night.”
Moving on to the “good news,” he said things will get sunnier as the new week begins. “Good news is from Monday we will see sunny spells appearing and then as promised Tuesday looks like the first fully dry day for the entire country with good sunny spells. So that’s something to look forward to.”
“Wednesday dry too, a bit of uncertainty of a low pressure system out to the west but Wednesday looks good at moment. And then we have to wait and see what happens for Thursday and Friday as a risk of showers moving back in.”

He added that things “are improving” but as always, long-range forecasts are completely unpredictable.
“It’s improving and we have March, meteorological season of March to start so we will get some nice sunny March weather hopefully, especially on Tuesday but hopefully we will see an over. Very hard to know.”
“I know there was a story about unsettled weather to the end of March. Long-range forecasts really aren’t worth the paper they’re written on so beyond ten days it’s still very very uncertain. So just make the most of Saturday morning if you can and then look forward to some sunny spells Monday and Tuesday.”
