Choosing between the X or Y Version of the Go Tour Kalos: Global event is an important decision ticketed players of this Pokémon Go event will have to make.
While your Version choice doesn’t have as major of an impact as past Go Tour events, it still decides which rewards you receive from the ‘An X-ceptional Yarn’ Special Research quest and one of the field research tasks you have to make. Due to this, it’s best to choose wisely.
To help with your decision making, I’ve listed the X and Y Version differences in Pokémon Go down below and taken a look at which Version is best.

How to choose between X and Y in Pokémon Go
To choose between the X and Y Versions, you must progress through the opening steps of the ‘An X-ceptional Yarn’ Special Research quest. Once you reach this point, the Version options will appear on screen and all you have to do is select the Version you want. It’s important to remember that you can not change your Version choice. Take a look at the next section if you want some advice on which Version to select.
I recommend reaching the point where you can make your Version selection quickly as, while it will only play a small part in your Go Tour Kalos experience, it will have an effect on the Field Research Tasks you can earn. If you’re wanting to earn encounters with Unown X or Unown Y, then you’ll want to be receiving these tasks as soon as possible. Who knows, you might even catch a shiny Unown!
Get ready to Go Tour Kalos: Global with the Road to Kalos event and its Go Pass! There’s also three Unown quests unlocked via codes and the new Memories in Motion quest has been revealed.
Super Mega Raids and Link Charges have brought a new way to battle Mega Evolutions! Make sure you’re keeping up with the Precious Paths quest.
There’s a lot to do in Pokémon Go outside of the current event! From the Go Battle League, Remote Trading, PokéStop Showcase, Routes and Max Battles. Don’t forget to catch rare Pokémon while you’re at it.
X or Y: Which Go Tour Kalos version is best in Pokémon Go?
When it comes to which Version is best – X or Y – for ‘An X-ceptional Yarn’, the answer is subjective to your needs in Pokémon Go. (Sorry, but thems the breaks.) There are, however, some factors you can use to help make your decision.
Firstly, do you want a Xerneas or Yveltal? This can be because you’re missing one from your Pokédex, want a shot at getting a shiny version or just prefer one over the other. It’s important to note that Pokémon earned from Special Research quests tend to have better IV stats compared to others caught using traditional methods. For this reason, you can make your choice based upon the current Pokémon Go meta and how your needs fit in.
Xerneas is an excellent Fairy-type Pokémon in raids and the Master League. When it comes to this league, you can easily base your team around Xerneas being your closer – hitting your opponent hard with a difficult Fairy-type to counter. The only downside is that it’s pure Fairy-typing and you do have to focus on a Fairy-only moveset to make the most of it.
Yveltal is a little more complicated though. While it’s a Dark and Flying-type, it should never be used as a Dark-type attacker because Yveltal is useless in that regard. (Don’t even take it into consideration.) Thankfully, a Yveltal with a Flying-type moveset can work wonders in the Master League being an excellent allrounder and working perfectly as a match starter. Though there is another downside in the fact that, when it comes to raids, Yveltal is completely outmatched by Rayquaza – Mega and not.
In summary, if you want a raid attack go with Xerneas but if you want someone for Master League choose Yvetal.

The other factor you can use to decide your choice is the Unown you’ll unlock Field Research Tasks for. Unown can be tricky Pokémon to find since they’re typically only available during events like Go Tour, so having an extra way to catch one is perfect for filling a spot in your collection. Take a look at the Unown entry in Pokédex and see if you’re missing either X or Y. Remember – Unown X is for Version X and Unown Y is for Version Y.
Personally, I’ll be going with the X Version. I have both of the Unown forms and my Fairy-types feel rather lacking at the moment, so having another powerful Xerneas on my side will be very useful.
Hope you make the right decision between X and Y!
