Before Limerick played Tipperary last Saturday, I was pitch-side alongside Damian Lawlor from RTÉ. When Damo asked me for my prediction, I briefly spoke about the mass melee between Cork and Tipp two weeks earlier which had the appearance of blood and thunder and skin and hair flying. And then it was like a tea party for the rest of the match.

My point was that, even though that game was hyped up as a grudge match – especially from a Cork perspective after last July – there was little or no intensity in the game. And I’d even say that about the row. So my main argument was that it’s almost impossible for anyone to know who is going to arrive into these games with real intent and intensity.
