A hotel on The Palm in Dubai is reportedly in flames after an alleged missile attack this afternoon. The incident occurred at the Fairmont Hotel in Dubai, where images show it on fire.
The blaze comes hours after Donald Trump stated that the US had launched ‘major combat operations’ in Iran overnight. Israel’s defence minister said it had launched a ‘preventative attack’ against Iran.
The Mirror reports that Israel Katz said the strikes were being carried out “to remove threats”, while witnesses in Tehran reported hearing explosions. Meanwhile the US is also participating in Israel’s strikes against Iran, the Associated Press reports.
There have reportedly been “dozens” of strikes across Iran, the country in response launched strikes against Israel and US military targets across the Middle East. People ran for cover earlier today in Dubai as a loud bang was heard near the Marina, while in Abu Dhabi, capital of the UAE, a death was reported after debris fell on a residential area.
Updated advice on the FCDO website is warning British nationals in Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait to immediately find shelter in place. The update read: “Remain indoors in a secure location, avoid all travel and follow instructions from the local authorities.”
