Jane Schoenbrun, director of I Saw the TV Glow and We’re All Going to the World’s Fair, is back with another chilling, visually distinctive film. Starring Emmy winners Hannah Einbinder (Hacks) and Gillian Anderson (The X-Files, Sex Education, Scoop), Teenage Sex and Death in Camp Miasma is scheduled to arrive in US theaters on August 7, 2026 — but you can watch the movie’s first eerily beautiful right now.

Written and directed by Schoenbrun and produced by Plan B, the MUBI-financed film finds the acclaimed director working in their signature bold style, one characterized by themes of trans identity and queer horror. The meta horror outing also stars Amanda Fix, Arthur Conti, Eva Victor, Zach Cherry, Sarah Sherman, Patrick Fischler, Dylan Baker, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Kevin McDonald, Quintessa Swindell, and Jack Haven. The intriguing synopsis reads: “After years of slapdash sequels and waning fandom, the Camp Miasma slasher franchise is handed over to an enthusiastic young director for resurrection. But when she visits the original movie’s star, a now-reclusive actress shrouded in mystery, the two women fall into a blood-soaked world of desire, fear, and delirium.”

Following 2025’s Anaconda and the Faces of Death reboot that’s set to arrive in April, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma continues the modern trend of movies within movies, no doubt drawing horror from blurring the line between what’s real and what’s only in the Camp Miasma films that exist in the universe.

Setting up the in-universe Camp Miasma film franchise with striking visuals and just enough information to hook the audience without revealing too many secrets, the new trailer quickly and effectively establishes the stakes for Schoenbrun’s latest outing. It’s hard to tell just from the trailer which shots are meant to be reality. The picturesque, almost theater-like scenes give off an unsettling fake aura, making you question whether any of what you’re seeing is actually happening.

After the success of I Saw The TV Glow, which was nominated for six Independent Spirit Awards (including Best Picture, Screenplay and Director) as well as three Gotham Awards, Schoenbrun has horror enthusiasts counting down the days until Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma’s arrival. The filmmaker and writer also has their first novel, Public Access Afterworld, in line to be published by Hogarth in 2026. And their plans don’t stop there: As if a novel and film wasn’t enough work, Schoenbrun is also set to write, direct, and executive produce the acclaimed graphic novel Black Hole as a TV series for Netflix with Plan B and New Regency.
