Cork is set to benefit from a major nationwide jobs boost, as An Post confirmed it’s looking to hire up to 300 new frontline delivery workers. It comes as An Post announced a major increase in the number of parcels delivered, ahead of the release of its annual report.
The number of parcels handled by An Post increased by 27% last year, and the first two months of 2026 have seen an increase of almost 50% when compared to the same period last year. The company is hiring new workers and is working to automate a new parcel processing facility in Dublin to deal with the high volume of goods.
A number of job listings are already live on the An Post website, including vacancies which cover Cork city and county. Those wishing to apply must be physically fit, hold a full manual EU driving license, and have a satisfactory level of spoken and written English.
An Post is offering applicants a ‘competitive salary and benefits package’, along with a number of training and development opportunities, should they wish to take their careers further. The hourly rate is €17.44, and with a 37.5-hour workweek, postal operatives can expect to earn around €34,000, which may vary due to overtime and other factors.
While the company was unable to provide the precise number of jobs being created in Cork, the growth in parcel delivery rates across means the Rebel County will certainly benefit from the new hiring push.
The company has put the rapid rise in package volumes down to the growth of e-commerce across Ireland in recent years. The collapse of Fastway in late 2025 may have also increased the number of packages handled by An Post.
Commenting following the announcement of the new jobs, An Post CEO David McRedmond said: “With burgeoning e-commerce growth, capacity is the major issue for An Post. 300 additional frontline delivery staff will increase capacity in the “last mile” while additional processing at Cheeverstown will provide “middle mile” capacity until a major new parcels site for Ireland is opened at the end of the decade. Meanwhile, we continue to target efficiencies in non-frontline areas through process redesign and technology.
“An Post’s Greenlight strategy has delivered positive results for 2025, and the growth in 2026 shows the seismic impact of Online on global trade. Parcel network capacity is an essential infrastructure for the State, allowing people and businesses to locate and operate anywhere.”
