From early this morning, customers were arriving at Kelly’s Mace Circle K Station, on the Mulranny Road, Newport and were congratulating Micheál Kelly and his staff on selling the winning 11.1 million euro national lottery ticket on Wednesday.
It was a quick pick ticket sold in the busy store on Wednesday, and details of the winning store were released early this morning, however, the winner’s identity is not known.
However, speculation on his/her or their identity was rife at Kelly’s as customers came in buying coffee, paying for fuel, or picking up the groceries this morning.
The winner has contacted the National Lottery office and are making arrangements to pick up the cheque at lottery HQ.
The people that Midwest News met and spoke to in Kelly’s today wished the winner, whoever they are, well and confirmed that it “wasn’t them”.
Micheál explained that his busy store is located along the popular Great Western Greenway and so attracts local and tourists daily, so it could have been anyone on Wednesday that bought the lucky ticket.
Margaret and Conor are both staff members at Kelly’s and they spoke to Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley about what a big win like this means locally…

The National Lottery garland of green balloons was erected outside Kelly’s and customers were arriving and getting photos of themselves. They explained that they were “dreaming the dream”… and imagining it was themselves that won.
