It would be fair to say that 66-year-old Dubliner Jimmy O’Neill, a typesetter by trade, has been a man of caution all his life.

Born and bred in the Liberties, O’Neill raised his own brood there after marrying his wife Maggie and welcoming three children – now 40, 35 and 30. He got a mortgage and a home for the young family, renovating it to four bedrooms over the years rather than selling up, even as the Celtic Tiger property market roared around them.
