The supermarket peanut butter taste test
Do you like your peanut butter smooth or crunchy? Do you use it for baking or prefer to eat it on toast, in a smoothie or acai bowl, drizzled over pancakes or spread on slices of crunchy apple as an elite, nutritious snack first seen – by me anyway – in The West Wing? Whatever way you eat it, chances are you have a jar in the kitchen cupboard, on standby.
Peanut butter has been rehabilitated in recent years. Once viewed as a calorie-heavy indulgence, it’s now lauded as a health food and source of protein, fibre and good fats. That’s more applicable, of course, to peanut butters that – like our winner – contain nothing but roasted peanuts.
