Tuesday brought the first truly dry day since December 2025, with bright clear skies.
After one of the wettest Februarys on record, according to Met Eireann, Tuesday March 3 has been the first truly dry day in months. One forecaster described it as a “phenomenally long period of time even for Ireland” to have such prolonged rain.
However, there are some showers on the way as we move through the rest of the week. One weather forecaster said that Thursday and Sunday this week will see the most rain.
For now, it is a “beautiful sunny picture.” Cathal Nolan of Ireland’s Weather Channel explained: “It is the first entirely dry day today across the country since the 28th of December 2025. It seems like a lifetime ago certainly and meteorologically speaking that is a phenomenally long period of time even for Ireland to go without experiencing an entirely dry day across the country.
“But as we said clear blue skies right the way across Ireland at the moment… and that is going to be the story as we going to tomorrow as well. We can see our our latest synoptic charts here that is the area of high pressure responsible for bringing that settled weather into tomorrow.
“We will see that area of high pressure move a little bit to the east allowing for a more southerly flow maybe a little more cloud about tomorrow but holding dry for the vast majority of us with some sunny breaks coming through as well before this cold front pushes in.
“The weekend looks as though we’re going to see dry and settled weather returning from Friday right the way through Saturday and indeed into Sunday as well.”
Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather said that showers will make their return: “A lovey Tuesday as promised. We do have some showers returning next few days with Thursday and Sunday most likely days to see rain here.”

Met Eireann forecasts that Wednesday will be bright and sunny with some potential for patchy drizzle. On Thursday, Met Eireann said that it will be cloudy and damp and wet with widespread outbreaks of rain and drizzle.
Afternoon highs of 5 to 8 degrees in moderate, occasionally fresh, westerly winds becoming north-westerly and easing later. Any remaining cloud and rain in the east will gradually clear eastwards on Thursday night, and it will become dry and cold under clear skies. Lowest temperatures of -2 to +2 degrees with some frost and icy patches.
By Friday, they said it will be mostly dry with long spells of spring sunshine.
