Fans of Ciara Kelly will be disappointed to hear that she has tucked her writing pen away for a while, though the radio presenter feels it is the right thing to do after a recent heartbreak has left her feeling ‘off kilter.’
The 54-year-old made a vulnerable confession to her readers, explaining that she isn’t in the right mindset to continue writing her column, which features in the Irish Independent, at the moment.
Ciara divulged that she ‘feels like she’s been winded’ by the sudden passing of her beloved sister, Dara, who sadly passed away after a hard-fought battle with cancer in February.

While she is well-versed in grief, having lost both of her parents in the past, Ciara explained that the death of her sibling has understandably had a huge impact on her daily life.
‘I’m angsting over small things and catastrophising in a way that’s out of character. I now carry a knot in my stomach. Or perhaps it’s a hole. Maybe that’s normal too,’ Ciara penned in what will be her last column article for a while.

The former GP said she feels like she is ‘currently warding off a deep sadness, a black hole’ and knows that she will have to address it head-on rather than get ‘sucked into it with no way out.’
While Ciara has been a columnist for ‘donkey’s years,’ she explained that it’s time for a break, as she ‘has no thoughts’ that she feels like sharing with her readers at the moment.

‘When I wrote my first article for the Sunday Independent in 2008, I honestly believed it would be a one-off, and I often say that article changed my life – it sent me down a new path. And I’ll never say never again, but for now, slán, I’ve loved it,’ she wrote as she ended the article.
Luckily, people will still be able to get their fix of the star by tuning into her radio show, The Hard Shoulder, on Newstalk. Hopefully, it won’t be long before Ciara is back on her laptop, sharing her thoughts with us!
