A convicted drug dealer has been taken to hospital after it was suspected he swallowed a phone in prison.
Finglas criminal Kaide Fowler (38), who was jailed last December for four and a half years for drug dealing and money laundering, was rushed from Dublin’s Wheatfield Prison to hospital on Tuesday night.
Fowler, whose father Josh was stabbed to death in 2024, is suspected to have swallowed a mobile phone, which is considered contraband behind bars. Prison officers feared Fowler may have seriously injured or poisoned himself in the process of trying to conceal the phone amid a search.
“He was complaining of bad constipation,” a source said. “It’s suspected he swallowed a phone. But obviously there’s concern of potential battery leaks or the blockage causing real issues so he was taken into hospital.”
Described in court as a low level drug dealer, Fowler, of Deanstown Avenue, Finglas West, pleaded guilty to a string of charges of having various different types of drugs for sale or supply, including heroin, cannabis and cocaine on dates between February 5, 2021 and January 19, 2023.
