An estimated €450m worth of wind energy was “wasted” last year due to constraints and congestion on the grid, with an Oireachtas committee due to hear how 13pc of wind energy was wasted in 2025.

Wind Energy Ireland, which represents more than 200 companies, will also tell TDs and senators how the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) is already “severely under-resourced against its current responsibilities” and new legislation allowing for “private wires” will only add to its work.
