In 2015, after a run in iconic comedies like Parks and Recreation and Party Down, Adam Scott switched lanes and shifted his focus to all things horror thanks to the arrival of Michael Dougherty’s Krampus. To be fair, the feature, which also starred Toni Collette, had plenty of darkly comedic undertones, but, at its core, it falls under the horror genre. Now, more than a decade later, the Severance star is returning to the sinister and spooky with the upcoming vehicle, Hokum. Slated for an arrival in the U.S. on May 1, the supernatural project is under the watchful eye of Damian McCarthy, who previously made audiences scream with 2020’s Caveat and 2023’s Oddity. Today, as part of Collider’s Exclusive Preview event, we’ve got a fresh look at some of the terror audiences can expect from McCarthy’s latest filmmaking foray.
Backed by NEON, Hokum is happy to lean into its bragging rights of hailing from the same studio as Oz Perkins’ Longlegs, and the vibes certainly match. In the movie, Scott stars as Ohm Bauman, a man in mourning after the death of his parents. Looking for the perfect place to spread their ashes and — as an author — always scouting out a good setting for his next book, Ohm travels to a remote pocket of Ireland where he discovers his rental home might come with an unwanted sinister presence. In addition to Scott, McCarthy’s newest title also features a call sheet that includes names like Peter Coonan (King of the Travellers), Austin Amelio (When No One Sees Us), David Wilmot (Hamnet), Will O’Connell (Game of Thrones), Florence Ordesh (Foundation), and more.
In our exclusive image, we see Scott’s Ohm Bauman searching for answers in the middle of the woods. With a tan jacket on, the character has found a new place to look as he can be seen swinging open a set of doors that lead into nothing but darkness.

What Else Has Adam Scott Been Up To?

Hokum isn’t the only thing that Scott has on the way for fans who have been waiting to see him back on the big screen. In addition to his latest horror romp, the actor is also on board to join a stacked cast that includes Danielle Deadwyler (The Woman in the Yard) and Ron Perlman (Sons of Anarchy) in Kevin Hamedani’s darkly comedic thriller The Saviors. Beyond that, he’ll appear alongside Robert De Niro (The Godfather Part II), Michelle Monaghan (The Family Plan), and Michael Keaton (Batman Returns) in James Ashcroft’s gritty crime thriller, The Whisper Man.
And then, of course, there’s the upcoming third season of his monstrously popular Apple TV hit Severance. While we may not know exactly when the next batch of episodes will arrive on our screens, the production is already in the works with Ben Stiller returning to direct and executive produce.
