In tonight’s episode, there’s an early scare for Jodie as she continues to “support” her sister Shona Platt at the hospital following baby Harper’s operation.
Jodie takes some time out to chat to the mum she’s befriended during her visits – and maintains the bizarre pretence that Harper is her own child. While Jodie seems to be enjoying her deception, she’s mortified to spot Shona standing right behind her.
A baffled Shona isn’t sure what to think when Jodie claims that the woman in question is unstable and caused the mix-up, so she went along with it rather than upset her.
“It definitely raises a red flag, but Jodie is a very skilled manipulator and a quick liar,” Julia Goulding, who plays Shona, told us recently. “Shona is so emotionally on her knees that she simply doesn’t have the capacity to take on any more drama.
“She just brushes it off because she’s too exhausted to fight it. She’s fuming initially. She’s like: ‘What are you playing at?’ But Jodie is so good at talking her way out of things that Shona ends up believing her.
“It’s hard to get into that headspace sometimes because it feels so risky, but Shona just wants to trust her sister.”

Later, Lily stumbles across Jodie’s sinister box of mementoes at the Platt house and is alarmed to find Bernie’s photo and Brian’s book.
“I took the book because I was sticking up for you,” Jodie protests, as Lily pushes for answers. “Someone’s got to. Your dad and Shona don’t. You won’t tell anyone, will you?”
When Jodie continues to pressure Lily to make a decision, the schoolgirl only replies with: “I’ll think about it…”
