Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale’s Moira Dingle tries to seize control of the farm’s future next week – as she demands a meeting with Kim Tate. Can they thrash out a deal together, or will Moira warn her nemesis to back off?

Moira and her family have been battling the Tates for months now, with Kim and Joe both determined to buy her share of Butler’s Farm. There’s always been a sense that Moira will never budge despite Kim and Joe’s manoeuvring, but the truth about Cain’s recent diagnosis could change everything.

Next week, Cain finally follows advice from his granddaughter Sarah Sugden and friend Liam Cavanagh by telling Moira that his illness is far more serious than he’s led her to believe.

Cain was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer, which has been described as aggressive but localised. He initially told Moira that it was nothing to worry about, but now realises that he needs more support from his family.

After Cain’s revelation, Moira requests a prison visit from Kim. But what will the two women have to say to each other?

“Kim doesn’t know why Moira summons her,” teases Natalie J Robb, who plays Moira. “But she might have an idea that it’s got something to do with the farm.

“It’s something Moira’s wanted to try to talk about, but what comes out of the meeting will affect a lot of what happens with the future of the Dingles, the farm and the family…”

How far will Moira go to protect her family as they face their toughest challenge yet?

Emmerdale bosses have been working on Cain’s storyline with support from the Prostate Cancer UK charity, which has offered guidance to producers, scriptwriters, storyliners and the show’s research department.

“Cain instinctively felt like the right character to tell this story,” show producer Laura Shaw explained recently. “He is a complex man that doesn’t normally talk about his feelings or channel them in a helpful way.

“It’s important men are encouraged to get checked, but we also want to sensitively explore the possible side effects patients may have, but don’t necessarily talk about.

“It’s also a love story for Cain and Moira as they navigate the tough times ahead as a married couple.”

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
