A man, aged in his 80s, has died after a single vehicle collision in Ardee, Co Louth this afternoon.

The incident occurred on the N33 at Cappocksgreen shortly after 3pm.

The man, who was the driver of the car, was transported by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, where he later died.

The Coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination will take place.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are examining the scene and local traffic diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Separately, a pedestrian in his 30s has died in hospital after a road crash in Co Kerry earlier this week.

The man was taken to University Hospital Kerry (UHK) following the serious crash and had been in a critical condition but Gardaí confirmed on Thursday morning that he died as a result of his injuries.

The crash, involving a pedestrian and a car, occurred in the Tubrid More area of Ardfert in north Kerry on Monday evening (March 2) at approximately 9:20 pm.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and said the driver of the vehicle had left the scene before the arrival of gardaí.

A post-mortem examination will take place in due course and a technical examination of the scene was completed, gardaí said.
