A range of sand toys sold in Tesco stores have been recalled as they may contain asbestos.
A recall notice for the toys, manufactured by Addo Play Ltd, was issued by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) on Thursday.
The CCPC warned that the products present a risk to health “as the sand may contain asbestos”.
The recall includes four products under ‘Out to Impress’ and Paw Patrol branding.

Asbestos is a banned substance across the EU and poses a number of health risks. Inhaling asbestos can cause a number of health issues, including respiratory illnesses and lung conditions.
In line with advice issued in the UK, the CCPC has advised consumers who have the recalled products in their home to stop using them immediately.

If the sand is still in its packaging, consumers are advised to place it in a “heavy duty” plastic bag, seal it securely, label it clearly and store it out of reach of children.

If the sand has been used, sites where it was used should be cleaned using wet cloths, while wearing gloves and a protective mask. The sand should be double bagged along with the gloves, mask and cloths, and again, sealed, labelled and kept out of reach of children.
Consumers have also been advised to contact their local authority for advice on collection and disposal.

Children and others should be kept away from areas where the sand has been used until they have been cleaned.
Before disposal of the products, consumers can contact Tesco for a refund, and no receipt is required.
