The trailer has been unveiled for a picturesque new film made in Donegal.

The Three Urns stars Academy Award nominee Ciarán Hinds, Bond girl Olga Kurylenko, Stephen Dillane, Lisa Dwane with Stephen Fry and Sinéad Cusack.

The film premiered at the Dublin Film Festival last month and is set to reach Irish cinemas on 17th April.

Filmed in Donegal last spring, the production was blessed with sunshine, highlighting some breathtaking locations.

Locals will recognise a slew of familiar spots across the county.

The film features the impressive Glenveagh National Park, Lurgabrack Nature Reserve at Horn Head and the ancient Betany Stone Circle in Raphoe.

The trailer also teases scenes from Lifford Courthouse, a journey aboard the Lough Foyle Ferry, and plenty of local character inside Conway’s Bar in Ramelton.

Charming, joyful and with a touch of whimsy, Stephen Warbeck and John-Paul Davidson’s The Three Urns is set to be a funny and often moving look at reconnection and exploration.

After years living in France, Mr O’Connor (Ciarán Hinds) sets out on a pilgrimage to his former home in Ireland after the death of his wife.

Equal parts picturesque and picaresque, his journey is full of serendipitous encounters with a cohort of colourful characters including a Lithuanian painter, an itinerant priest, horse traders and horse whisperers, a Choctaw native commemorating the Great Famine, and a group of mystic women worshipping at the ancient Beltany Stone Circle.

Ciarán Hinds, who got an Oscar nod for his supporting role in critically acclaimed Belfast, is no stranger to Donegal. In 2022 he spent months in the south west of the county to star alongside Liam Neeson in the blockbuster film ‘In the Land of Saints and Sinners’.

Hinds has been known to call into local businesses and bars for some ceol agus craic when off-duty.

The Three Urns is written and directed by John-Paul Davidson and Stephen Warbeck and produced by Eamon Hughes and David Collins for Samson Films with the support of Fís Éireann / Screen Ireland.
