Liam Farrell’s son, Brendan Farrell, says plans to exhume his father’s body are “positive, forward momentum” in the investigation into his death.
Gardaí are planning to exhume the body of the retired Leitrim farmer, which was found bruised and bloodied outside his home in the village of Rooskey in January 2020.
The exhumation is to be carried out with the Garda Serious Crime Review Team.
Last October, a review into how gardaí handled Mr Farrell’s death was established by Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly.
Brendan Farrell told Behind the Story he was shaking when he heard the news of the exhumation yesterday.
“I sat in the car and I was absolutely shaking,” he said.
“This is our father, this is daddy – the man that lived a simple life,” he said.
“A man that was loved by neighbours, his family, his friends – a man that was full of life.
“I still can’t believe that we’re in this situation; we just want to find out what happened him.”
‘Stuck in time’
Mr Farrell said anything that gives him and his siblings further insight is welcome.
“If it gives us a better insight to what happened that weekend, that’s a positive and hopefully it’ll help the (Garda Serious Crime Review Team) as well in their work.”
Mr Farrell said his father’s house remains untouched.
“It’s stuck in time as to what we found that weekend,” he explained.
“We don’t feel it’s right to do anything with it until we follow this through to find out what happened Daddy.
“When we do that, then obviously we’ll return the house to its normal condition, which was pristine.”
Mr Farrell also spoke of his ‘regret’ for not bringing his father home that night in 2020.
“I think one of the biggest regrets that I have is that I wasn’t there that night to bring him home,” he said.
“I was only minutes away… every time I dive up there now, I think, I wish I could have been there with him, and he would have got in the door safely.”
Mr Beast’s foray into finance
Fran also speaks with journalist Barry O’Rourke about YouTuber ‘Mr Beast’, who is reportedly pivoting into the world of financial services to under-18s.
Mr Beast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, began posting on the platform back in 2012 and now has 469 million subscribers – which is larger than the US population.
