Evan Ferguson is out of Ireland’s World Cup play-off after the decision was taken to undergo ankle surgery on Monday, a development which also casts doubt on his future at Roma.
The 21-year-old hasn’t played since Roma’s Europa League meeting with Stuttgart on January 22 and Heimir Hallgrimsson has indicated that he was preparing for a scenario where the frontman missed out.
