Banglalink has signed an agreement with global technology company Huawei to develop a next-generation digital payment platform named “Mukto Pay”, aiming to expand cashless financial services in Bangladesh.

The agreement was signed on March 4 in Barcelona, Spain, during the global technology event Mobile World Congress.

Banglalink Chief Executive Officer Johann Buse and Huawei South Asia Chief Operating Officer Tim Zhou signed the deal in the presence of senior officials from both organizations.

Under this partnership, Mukto Pay will use Huawei’s mobile financial services platform to enable secure, instant and high-value digital transactions.

The platform will allow users to make cashless payments and transfers instantly while maintaining security standards comparable to those used in the banking sector.

The name “Mukto”, meaning “free”, reflects Banglalink’s goal of making financial services more accessible to people across the country. The initiative highlights the company’s broader vision of expanding connectivity and enabling wider participation in the growing digital economy.

The platform is expected to bring unbanked and underbanked populations into formal financial services while supporting Bangladesh’s expanding digital economy.

It also represents Banglalink’s transformation from a traditional telecom operator into a broader digital service provider integrating connectivity, digital platforms and financial services.

The initiative has already received a no-objection certificate from Bangladesh Bank, and the Mukto Pay platform will begin formal operations once final regulatory approval is obtained.

Mukto Pay reflects Banglalink’s commitment to making digital financial services easily accessible across the country while building a secure and reliable digital payment ecosystem.

The partnership also aims to ensure scalable and secure fintech services and support Bangladesh’s ongoing digital transformation.
