Caolan McFadden signed off from his schools cross country career in style on Saturday.

McFadden won the senior boys race at the All-Ireland Schools Cross Country Championships in Mallusk.

The Cranford AC runner, a student at Loreto Milford, is bound for Villanova University in Pennsylvania on an athletics scholarship in the autumn.

The Creeslough teenager – a multiple national medallist over the years – took a memorable victory to land his latest national gold medal and it was a Donegal one-two with McFadden winning from Odhran McBrearty.

The Finn Valley AC athlete and St Columba’s College, Stranorlar student was second, around seven seconds behind McFadden after a thrilling race.

The margins were finer still with just six seconds between second and fourth.

McBrearty, a back-to-back winner of the intermediate race at this event, will be expected to be in the mix again next year.
