A Donegal woman has been named the winner of a national farming photography competition.

The International Year of the Woman Farmer Photo Competition was organised by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine in co-operation with CAP Network Ireland.

One of the aims of the competition was celebrating the role women across Ireland’s agri-food sector, as well as highlighting their contribution to farming, fisheries, sustainability, and rural communities.

Participants were asked to capture photos which showcased “the diverse roles women play in agriculture and rural life across Ireland.”

Donegal woman Gillian Smith was named as the overall winner of the competition for her photo, titled Changing Roles.

The announcement was made at this week’s Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine International Women’s Day Conference in Athlone, where Gillian was also named winner of the Farming category of the competition.
