We ask chefs across Ireland who currently hold one or more Michelin stars to share their greatest culinary secret: from pizza and pasta to steak and seafood, pastries, toasties and more, where do they eat when off-duty?

Nobody earns a Michelin star without really knowing food, and they don’t just turn that knowledge and skill off when they want to eat something casual. Whether it’s a slice of pizza, a curry or even just fish and chips, there’s a big difference between something done well and something done mediocre.

Attention to detail, consistency, use of good ingredients and skill in execution are just as important when making a sandwich as they are when plating a high-end dish worthy of Instagram. So, we asked every current holder of a Michelin star on this island for one restaurant recommendation in each of 10 categories, with the goal of tapping into their sense of what’s good in Irish food right now.
