Marie-Christine’s second husband was Prince Michael of Kent, son of Prince George and Princess Marina and grandson of King George V. The couple were introduced, the Princess revealed, by Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma, who explained Marie-Christine’s family lineage to Queen Elizabeth II, leading to the late monarch claiming that the soon-to-be princess might be a little too grand for the House of Windsor.

Queen Elizabeth II gave her approval to the union, and Baroness Marie-Christine Anna Agnes Hedwig Ida von Reibnitz married Prince Michael of Kent on 30 June 1978. The bride wore a two-piece cream blazer and skirt suit by Hardy Amies. Her ring, a two-stone sapphire-and-diamond piece, was made from gems belonging to her mother-in-law, Princess Marina of Kent. At the post-wedding ball, Princess Michael changed into a Bellville Sassoon dress, which she paired with the City of London diamond fringe tiara.

The couple share two children, Lord Frederick Windsor, who is married to Sophie Winkleman, and Lady Gabriella Windsor, whose husband Thomas Kingston died in February 2024.

Prince Michael of Kent is a first cousin of Queen Elizabeth II and a first cousin once removed of King Charles III. Although he supports a number of charities and other organisations, including the Royal Club, he is not a working member of the royal family like his older brother, the Duke of Kent, and sister, Princess Alexandra, the Hon. Lady Ogilvy.
