K-Pop: Its meaning, music and more than just a ‘trend’
Stepping in to Dublin’s 3Arena for the K-Pop Forever! Tribute was like walking in to a time-machine. Hundreds of children filled the venue, singing and dancing along with every song. It was a completely new setting, a far cry from what being a fan looked like a decade ago, and it showed just how much the culture has grown and evolved.
I used to be called “cringey” for liking K-Pop back when the boy group EXO debuted their song Growl. Being a fan felt like something you had to hide. But seeing how popular K-Pop has become among the younger generation now makes me feel a little better – at least they don’t have to experience what I did in my early teens.
