An investigation is under way after a man’s body was discovered in Cavan town in the early hours of this morning.

Gardaí and emergency services were called to a residential property on James Connolly Street shortly after 3am.

The man, who was in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified and the scene is being preserved for a forensic examination.

Gardaí said the results of a post-mortem examination will determine the course of their investigation.
