Crookhaven, the upcoming mystery drama starring Dougray Scott and Julie Hesmondhalgh, has landed its long-awaited release date on the BBC. And what’s even better is that viewers don’t have to wait very long at all!
The series is based on JJ Arcanjo’s bestselling collection of novels, and takes place in a school run by Caspian Lockett (Scott). The academy nurtures the talents of young thieves, with the aim of using their skills for good.
At the centre of the story are a group of students who discover their destiny; join The Crooked Network, and vanquish the evil known as The Nameless. Naturally, the battle won’t be easy.

After being unveiled in May, it has now finally been confirmed that Crookhaven will premiere on BBC One at 3.05pm on 22 March. The second episode will follow straight after, at 3.50pm. Furthermore, the series will stream in full on BBC iPlayer.
In addition to Scott and Hesmondhalgh, who have appeared in Vigil and Coronation Street respectively, the stacked cast for the series includes Keith Allen, Claire Forlani, Amari Bacchus, Naomi Wirthner and Lucas Leach among others.
“Centred around pickpocketing genius Gabriel and his arch-rival, headmaster’s daughter Penelope, the series follows a group of eight very different, young international students as they compete for the coveted Crooked Cup,” reads the synopsis (via BBC).
“In a school where every teacher is a crook and traitors lurk around every corner, no-one is entirely who they seem to be,” it continues, with the logline also teasing several “dark secrets” and a “terrifying enemy”.
“A coming-of-age drama full of exciting twists and turns, Crookhaven is about finding your place in the world, learning who you can trust and the very nature of right and wrong,” it continues.

Furthermore, the drama has been billed as a series that “flips the high school genre on its head with a gripping, morally complex, twisty mystery rooted in identity, loyalty and found family.”
Justin Young, who is known for his work on Death in Paradise and Ripper Street, has created the series in addition to serving as an executive producer, while Tali Walters is the Creative Lead.
Crookhaven premieres on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on 22 March.
