Tributes have been paid to ‘a dedicated nurse’ and ‘beautiful wife and mammy’ from Co Sligo who sadly passed away earlier.

Nycin Thomas, who was originally from Kerala in India but had been living in Ballisodare for a number of years, passed away peacefully on Thursday at North West Hospice, The Mall, surrounded by her loving family following a brave illness battle.

Nycin is survived by her husband Albin Sratel and two children, Nathan and Thomas.

A death notice shared on RIP.ie said Nycin “will be sadly missed and remembered with love by her husband, sons, parents Thomas and Sobha, sisters Serin (Bebil) and Angel, parents-in-law Sebastian and Lilly, sister-in-law Ancy (Sino), nieces, nephews, colleagues at Sligo University Hospital, relatives, neighbours and many friends.”

Nycin was a member of the nursing staff at the dialysis unit in Sligo University Hospital, where she made a huge impression on her co-workers and patients.

Tributes have been paid to the popular mum-of-two, with the Irish Kidney Association Sligo branch wiring in a message shared on their social media pages: “Members of our branch and dialysis patients were deeply saddened to learn of the death of former Sligo dialysis nurse Nycin Thomas.

“A dedicated nurse, she will be fondly remembered by those she cared for before she had to give up work due to illness.”

A fellow nurse at Sligo University Hospital said: “Sincere condolences to all Nycin’s family, my thoughts and prayers are with you at this very sad time. Nycin will be greatly missed by all her colleagues in SUH.”

A family friend added: “Our heartfelt condolences to you Albin, your two beautiful boys Nathan & Tommy & to all of Nycin’s family & friends on the loss of your beloved wife, mother & friend.

“Nycin will be fondly remembered for her beautiful smile, her kindness & her positive spirit. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

“Our thoughts & prayers are with you all during this incredibly difficult time, a young life taken far too soon. May Nycin’s gentle soul RIP.”

A close pal said: “Such sad news my heart breaks for Albin and your precious boys Nathan and Tommy. Nycin is such a wonderful woman great mother and a lovely friend. I will truly miss her calls about our kids playdates together. My sincere apologies. My thoughts and prayers are with u and all your extended family at this very difficult time.”

While another mourner added: “Our deepest sympathy to Albin, Nathan and Tommy on the sad passing of Nycin. A beautiful wife and Mammy. May she rest in eternal peace. Thinking of you all at this difficult time.”

Nycin will lie in repose at Seán Feehily’s Funeral Home at Cartron Cross, Sligo (F91EH98) on Sunday from 12.30pm until 3.30pm.

Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Monday at 2pm in Saint Brigid’s Church, Corhownagh, Ballisodare.
