Ireland is set for a mixed bag of sunny spells and wet and windy conditions over the coming days – with a rainy St Patrick’s Day on the cards.
Met Éireann forecasters have said the coming days will be blustery and unsettled generally with spells of rain or showers at times but temperatures around average.
While Saturday kicked off with good sunny spells, with some isolated showers in parts, the day is set to be largely dry, although some scattered showers will move in throughout the evening, which will clear tonight before outbreaks of rain and drizzle at midnight.
While it will rain down overnight, Mother’s Day on Sunday will kick off with sunny spells before scattered blustery showers, some heavy and of hail, will move in with some showers and gusty westerly winds on Sunday night and lows of 1C.
Monday will be overcast with outbreaks of rain and drizzle, but temperatures will be warmer than at the weekend, with highs of 10C.

St Patrick’s Day will kick off wet with outbreaks of rain across the west, this rain will spread east later in the afternoon with a clearance to sunny spells and isolated showers following from the evening.
Here is Met Éireann’s forecast for the weekend and St Patrick’s Day:
Saturday
Most areas will start out dry this morning with good sunny spells and just isolated showers near Atlantic fringes. While it will be largely dry today, clouds will bubble this afternoon and scattered showers will move eastwards across the country, clearing into the Irish Sea early this evening. Highs of 8C to 10C, in a moderate westerly breeze.
Dry early tonight under broken cloud with any lingering showers clearing eastern fringes. Outbreaks of rain and drizzle with freshening south-west breezes will arrive into Atlantic counties around midnight, extending eastwards later. Some mist too. Lows of 1C to 6C.
Sunday
Overnight rain and drizzle will give way to sunny spells and scattered blustery showers, some heavy and of hail. A cool day with southwest winds becoming westerly, fairly brisk throughout. Highs of 7C to 10C but turning much cooler from the afternoon.
Rather blustery and wet with showers and gusty westerly winds on Sunday night. The showers will become confined to the west and north later in the night with dry albeit cloudy weather further east and south. Lowest temperatures of 1C to 5C.
Monday
Many places will be dry at first on Monday, but clouds will soon thicken with outbreaks of rain and drizzle spreading from the Atlantic. It’ll become breezy too with fresh to strong south to southwest winds developing in the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 10C to 12C.
Becoming quite overcast with outbreaks of rain and drizzle mainly in the west, north and south on Monday night. Breezy too with fresh to strong westerly winds, particularly strong along Atlantic coasts. Rather mild overnight too with lowest temperatures of 6C to 10C.
Tuesday – St Patrick’s Day
A cloudy start with outbreaks of rain and drizzle mainly across western counties. Rain will spread east later in the afternoon with a clearance to sunny spells and isolated showers following from the evening. Highest temperatures of 8C to 11C with light to moderate west to southwest winds.
