Kerry Katona slams Jess Wright over ‘wrong’ podcast comments as star apologises
Kerry Katona has slammed Jess Wright over her ‘wrong’ comments on her podcast with her mum Carol and sister Natalya Wright. The 45 year old star is urging people to ’embrace your body’ as she reacted to Jess’ comments, which the former The Only Way Is Essex star made on a recent episode of her podcast, titled Wright At Home.
The podcast episode, titled Should Thongs Be Allowed At The Beach?, heard Jess, 40, Carol, 65, and Natalya, 24, branding thong bikinis as “gross” and “unsexy”. The trio later apologised for their comments, but the three have faced widespread backlash online.
Now, Kerry has shared her reaction to the trio’s comments in her latest new! magazine column as she said: “On Jess Wright’s podcast recently, she, her mum Carol and sister Natalya criticised women who wear thong bikinis. It’s another case of women slagging women off – and I think it’s wrong. I don’t see the problem with wearing them – I do! I don’t want to get tan marks on my a**e! The trio have since apologised, but my message is: if you want to, wear the thong – embrace your body!”

It comes after Jess, Natalya and Carol apologised for their comments made on their joint podcast earlier this week. The trio posted an apology to their Instagram stories which read: “We’ve listened, we hear you and we want to say sorry. Our judgement was wrong and we take full accountability and will be better moving forward. Love Jess, Natalya and Carol.”
The three faced huge backlash over their comments on their now-deleted podcast episode, which some said were “degrading” towards women. The conversation started with Jess, who said: “I can’t stand how it’s acceptable to walk around a beach in a thong.” Natalya added: “And do you know what’s worse? These girls that do wear them, fair enough if you’re going to wear them, at least if you’re going to bend over and put your towel on your bed, put like a sarong on.”
Carol then said she didn’t think such swimwear was “sexy for men to look at”, to which Jess said her husband Will doesn’t understand how women “think that is attractive” either. She added that he would say: “Put it away and leave something to the imagination.” Carol added that she and her husband, Mark, were out at the beach one day and saw three girls “who had their whole a***s out” and that Mark also felt these outfits were not sexy.
Their comments drew criticism online as one fan wrote: “Have you considered that maybe girls who wear a thong on the beach simply don’t want a big white a**e when the rest of their bodies tan?” Another added: “Tone deaf to even assume that women do this for the male gaze. Let people be.” While a third said: “It’s disgusting women still have to deal with other women tearing them down for their clothing choices.”
Another said: “With all the clips I keep seeing of Jess Wright & co degrading women for wearing a thong bikini on holiday, let this be your reminder that it’s YOUR life, YOUR body and you can do whatever YOU want.”
But, some agreed with the comments as one wrote underneath one of Jess’ Instagram posts: “Just a quick one – why on earth are you apologising for saying thongs on a beach are a bit grim – I agree with you lol don’t be hounded by people who don’t have real causes to cheer for. I wish events with real cause got attention that women who say I have the right to get my a**e out lol. It is your view no need to apologise lol”.
Another added: “Our tastes in clothes change over the years, what you liked a few years ago makes you gag at the thought today, (how I also feel when I think of my ex) people are allowed to change their minds, it isn’t illegal, nor is having an opinion. So what if she thinks bikini thongs are disgusting. That is her opinion, her choice. People need to stop being disgusting to others with different opinions to their own.”
As a third wrote: “I absolutely [100 per cent emoji] support your podcast and the conversation in question, theres no way you should have been made to apologise, every word you and your mum said is absolutely true and only the ‘offenders’ sos to speak are the ones not agreeing, its about time us ladies had a voice and I chose you ladies to be mine 100000% support from me sweethearts xxxxxxxxxx”.
