Three big picks for Sunday’s Co. Kerry racing.
The Mullins pair of Jalila Moriviere and Adela Icon look the ones to beat, but a chance is taken on five-year-old DREAM ON BABY.
The daughter of Walk In The Park has already shown good form at Listed level and was a close second to Aurora Vega in a Grade 3 hurdle at the beginning of the year. She was pulled up on her latest hurdle start when making a bad mistake four out when travelling well within herself.
She has since run well on the flat, finishing runner-up to Sharanga at Galway at the beginning of the month, demonstrating her well-being. Given that she has shown she is well up to winning a race of this nature, and with no ground worries, she looks like the value pick.
Five of the ten runners are making their debut over hurdles, and with the ones with experience not setting a high standard, the Emmet Mullins bumper winner GOOD GIRL KATHLEEN may have what it takes to make a winning start to life over hurdles. She was touched off by Run For Mahler on her latest start, and before that, she ran well for a long way in a Grade 3 bumper.
She has shown her stamina in her bumper win at Limerick, so there should be no excuses when it comes to the distance. With Emmet Mullins sure to have her well schooled for her debut, she may have too much in reserve for her rivals here.
16:28 Waterford Whispers
In a race where all eight runners come in with a winning chance, it can pay to side with WATERFORD WHISPERS. The son of Westerner is one of three runners for Henry de Bromhead and looks the one to be with.
He is unexposed over fences with only two starts, and we have yet to see anywhere near the best of his ability. He was a close second in the 2024 Martin Pipe Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival despite over-racing throughout. He started off life over fences last season, beating all bar the now Grade 2 novice chase winner Ill Atlantique.
We haven’t seen Waterford Whispers since fading into last of six in the Grade 1 Faugheen Novice Chase at Christmas (well backed), and with ground conditions looking set to suit, this talented seven-year-old can prove hard to beat.
