The weight of the Oscars has come up in the winners room thanks to Sam A Davis and Jack Piatt, who are the joint winners of the Oscar for best live action short, for The Singers, after that surprise tie announced earlier on.
Davis says the statuette is heavy, while Piatt says it would be good to use for a work-out, getting a laugh.
I’m in the first row of journalists and just a few feet away, but still haven’t managed to hold one yet.
However, I’ve done my research and can confirm the statuettes are 13.5ins tall and weigh 8.5lb.
One for the fact fans: The design itself is a stylised figure of a knight holding a crusader’s sword and standing on a reel of film, with five spokes signifying the five original branches of the Academy (actors, directors, producers, technicians and writers).
