Train Dreams is the tenth and final nominee for best picture.

The film is set in the Pacific North West in the early 20th Century, at a time of huge change industrially and socially.

An American railroad
worker and logger lives an itinerant existence before marrying and having a
daughter but returns home from a work trip only to be confronted by tragedy.

Based on the
novella of the same name by Denis Johnson, Train Dreams a quiet and contemplative
journey through one unassuming man’s life, starring Joel Edgerton as leading
man Robert Grainger.

Directed by
Clint Bentley, it also stars Felicity Jones and Kerry Condon. Condon, best known for The Banshees of Inisherin, also stars in another of this year’s best picture nominee, F1.

Many critics have
highlighted the influence of enigmatic US filmmaker Terrence Malick on Train Dreams, with its
huge painterly American landscapes, narrative voiceover and poetic style.
