Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans look pitch-perfect back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as new Avengers: Doomsday art showcases what fans could be looking at when the stars return to the franchise after their Oscar reunion. Downey and Evans have led most of the MCU’s best movies, serving as the two faces of the Marvel franchise. Their contribution to the MCU is immense.
After a period of doubt, Marvel is fighting back with the MCU’s upcoming slate of releases, which officially brings back its two biggest stars as key players in Avengers: Doomsday’s cast. While Evans reprises his role as Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, Downey leaves Iron Man behind to play Doctor Doom, the 2026 MCU movie’s villain. Their Marvel return has been imagined in new art.
On Instagram, @odimi_ showcased what Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans could look like as Doctor Doom and Captain America, respectively, in Avengers: Doomsday.
The Marvel fan art comes after the MCU actors reunited at the Academy Awards, where they handed the Best Original Screenplay Oscar to Black Panther franchise director Ryan Coogler for the vampire film Sinners. Downey’s Doctor Doom suit is based on MCU concept art, while Evans’ Captain America costume is the one from Avengers: Endgame.
Doctor Doom And Steve Rogers Are Likely To Be Major Enemies In The MCU

At this time, updates on Avengers: Doomsday’s story have been scarce. While Marvel released four teasers for the MCU movie in theaters with Avatar: Fire and Ash, none of them featured Downey’s Doctor Doom nor directly revealed what the film’s plot entails. That said, the Russo Brothers have commented on Evans’ Captain America return, saying, “It was always going to come back to this.”
Based on that statement showing how central Steve Rogers’ role is in Avengers: Doomsday, coupled with the fact that Downey’s Doctor Doom is expected to be the main villain of the MCU’s next two Avengers movies, fans can expect a rivalry to form between the two MCU characters. Through that, Marvel could find a similar enough dynamic to what Evans and Downey built in the MCU, but with a fresh angle.
Will Chris Evans Don The Captain America Suit In Avengers: Doomsday?
While the MCU fan art is great, celebrating Evans and Downey’s Oscar reunion and impending MCU return, Evans donning Captain America’s Avengers: Endgame suit might just stay in the fans’ imagination. In his Avengers: Doomsday trailer, Steve Rogers can be seen looking at his latest Captain America suit and putting it away in a box. He is now a father and a seemingly retired superhero.
Sure, Steve will likely join other Marvel heroes in fighting Doctor Doom, but with his new lease on life and the fact that Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson is now the MCU’s Captain America, it seems unlikely that Evans’ character will end up putting on either an old or new Captain America suit.
As such, the Oscar reunion fan art might be the closest to Evans and Downey in those suits in Avengers: Doomsday that fans will ever get.
