Just when I thought I couldn’t find another jacket to reign over my chic, Chloé-inspired blouson jacket (which, by the way, I have already worn countless times this month), M&S releases a brand new staple that’s too good to not at least try on. This week, the high street fashion hero has brought out a brand new style that comes at the perfect time as I swap thicker wool coats for something far more lightweight and seasonal.
The new coat in question? The Pure Cotton Cropped Utility Jacket, which not only is incredibly stylish, but simply genius, thanks to its two-in-one design that combines the lightweight style of a trench coat with the polished, military charm of a classic utility jacket, for just £55.

The first thing I immediately noticed when I tried it on was its airy design, making it incredibly easy to wear with existing staples I’ll be likely to carry through from the winter season, such as cardigans and cool knitted jumpers. Its shortened design also made it incredibly comfortable to wear, and it didn’t feel too heavy, much like my thicker day-to-day jackets and coats. Perfect for spring, in my opinion.

But it’s not just its practicality that appealed to me, the jacket is also aesthetically appealing, too. Uniquely designed, the jacket comes with one of the ultimate trending features of the season: a high, funnel neck with sophisticated button detailing. Not only that, but it comes with adjustable button cuffs for easy wearability, which also add to its polished charm.
Its neutral hue also makes the jacket incredibly versatile and easy to wear with a conveyor belt of colours likely to be in your current wardrobe, from bright reds and pinks to muted lilac and baby blues. However, if you’d rather keep the outfit formula pared back, take notes from M&S and pair it with bright whites and creams – I think a tiered white skirt looks excellent with the jacket.
