HSE South West has urged the public not to visit University Hospital Kerry (UHK) if they are experiencing symptoms of norovirus, such as nausea, vomiting, or diarrhoea. Some individuals may also develop a mild fever, headache, stomach cramps, or body aches.

Patients with scheduled appointments at UHK who have symptoms are advised to contact the hospital in advance for guidance before attending.

“If you have respiratory symptoms, or vomiting or diarrhoea, do not visit hospitals, nursing homes, or vulnerable people at home. Avoid social visits to care settings while unwell. Your actions will make a difference,” said Dr Margaret O’Sullivan, Consultant in Public Health Medicine with the HSE South West.

There are no changes to visiting arrangements at present, though the situation continues to be kept under review. Visiting hours at UHK remain 2pm–4pm and 6pm–8pm, seven days a week. Visits are limited to 30 minutes per patient, with a maximum of two visitors allowed. Extended visiting applies in maternity, where husbands or partners may visit from 12.30pm to 8.30pm.
