TV presenter Ruth Langsford admitted she and Eamonn Holmes “promptly burst into tears” as they said a painful goodbye.
Ruth, who turns 66 today (Tuesday, March 17) and Eamonn were one of the golden couples of British television when they announced their shock split in May 2024. They had been married for 14 years and together for almost 30.
They share one child, son Jack, who was born in 2002, and his departure for university in September 2020 prompted an outpouring of emotion from Ruth and her then-husband.
She described their son as a “chip off the old block” as he headed to the University of Salford to study Broadcast Journalism.
Speaking in her recent memoir Feeling Fabulous, Ruth wrote: “It was so exciting for him, and I didn’t want to ruin it by blubbing everywhere, but I could feel the emotion welling up between us all.

“Eamonn and I said goodbye, got into the car, and both promptly burst into tears. As we drove off, I looked up to the seventh floor where his room was and I could see a hand at the window waving goodbye.”
While Jack is Ruth’s only child, Eamonn has three children with his first wife, Gabrielle.
Ruth has spoken openly about her split from Eamonn in her book, admitting it felt “impossible to survive” it at first. She revealed she would often start her mornings after the split by crying in the shower before work.
The Loose Women presenter said: “The biggest emotion that threatened to swallow me up in the early days was sadness.
“When you have been with somebody for a long time – 26 years in our case – and had imagined what your future would look like, there is a sense of deep loss.”

She added that she expected to be with Eamonn “forever” and found the split “incredibly hard to come to terms with”.
Ruth added: “Suddenly, life was different, with no clue what the months and years ahead would look like.
“I am not happy my marriage is over, but I have accepted it. I think this has been the biggest turning point for me because fighting against the inevitable is exhausting and pointless.”
Since Ruth and Eamonn split almost two years ago, Ruth has stayed tight-lipped on her dating life. Eamonn, on the other hand, has moved on with relationship counsellor Katie Alexander, who is 23 years his junior.
Ruth hinted to her celebrity pal Rylan Clark that should would be tempted to date a younger man when she does throw herself back in the dating pool.
During her appearance on his radio show, they mentioned dating again, to which Ruth said: “I’m going younger.”
Eamonn and Ruth used to present This Morning on ITV every Friday between 2006 and 2021.
