A young Letterkenny man has been fined €400 after being caught with cocaine in a Letterkenny hotel.
Felix Connors appeared before Letterkenny District Court charged with two drugs offences.
The 19-year-old, with an address at Canal Road in Letterkenny, was represented by solicitor Michael Shiel.
Garda Sergeant Jim Collins outlined the details of both cases to the court.
He told how on October 28th, 2024, at 1.30am, Gardai noticed two males acting suspiciously outside the Glencar Inn in Letterkenny.
One ran away and the second was located and found to have a white powder substance in his possession. The substance was cocaine and had a street value of €5.
The court was also told that on November 4th, 2024 at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Letterkenny, Gardai called to a room and spoke to Felix Connors.
A search was carried out and Connors was found in possession of cocaine valued at €70.
The court was told he was fully cooperative when interviewed.
Sergeant Collins said the accused has similar previous convictions for drugs offences and also for public order.
Solicitor for Connors, Mr Michael Shiel, said his client was not working, lived at home with his parents but did help out keeping horses.
He said his client had pleaded guilty to both offences but said he was not on a waiting list to receive drug counselling.
Mr Shiel added that his client had pleaded to the charges and said that both were not major amounts of drugs.
Judge Emile Daly said she was going to convict on the second offence and fined Connors €400 and took the first charge into consideration.
