A crew member has been airlifted by a helicopter from a container ship off the coast of Cork amid “challenging” weather conditions.

The Irish Coast Guard carried out an urgent long-range medical evacuation of a crew member from a container ship on Tuesday afternoon.

The ship, the Eagle 2, was located 110 nautical miles south west of Castletownbere in Co Cork at the time of the evacuation.
