Mayo pride all around as Caelan Doris captains Ireland to Triple Crown

Pride was plentiful in Lacken on Saturday afternoon as one of Mayo‘s greatest ever sporting sons, Caelan Doris, captained Ireland to the Triple Crown.

Leinster and Ireland captain Doris was front and centre of the celebrations in the Aviva Stadium as Ireland edged the Scots in what was a thriller of a Six Nations clash.

Ireland head coach Andy Farrell was full of praise for what was a first-class game from the number eight, describing his showing as “one of his best games of his career”.

His Player of the Match display was intrinsic to Ireland’s victory to secure the silverware.

However, the ever-humble Doris chose to shine the light onto Tadhg Beirne’s performance post-match, while also giving Scotland their flowers.

“We saw what they were capable of last week, so had to be on high alert, always switched on.

“We knew what their attack was capable of. Felt our defence stood up very well today and got quite a few turnovers.

“Special mention to Tadhg Beirne, I thought he was unbelievable. This medal should probably be around his neck.”
