Reigning Connacht champions Mayo had to work hard for their two‑point win over Sligo in round one of this year’s Connacht Under-20 championship in Kilcoyne Park in Tubbercurry on Wednesday evening.
The sides were level on 15 points apiece with six minutes left, but two points from Darragh Beirne ensured a narrow victory for Keith Higgins’ side, who were heavy favourites coming into this tie.
