Could Ryan Gosling finally be getting closer to joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise for his dream role?

During his appearance on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Gosling was asked if there has been any progress on getting him into the MCU as Marvel’s Ghost Rider, with rumors having floated around since 2025 that he is part of Avengers: Doomsday as the iconic antihero. When asked by Josh Horowitz if he and Kevin Feige have even had discussions, Gosling carefully said, “Some discussions have been had. It’s a complicated situation.”

There are still many mysteries about who is and isn’t part of the Avengers: Doomsday cast, as Marvel Studios revealed a big group of stars in 2025 during the famous chairs live-stream. It’s key to remember that additional photography will be happening for the massive team-up installment, which could mean the inclusion of other unannounced characters and actors.

The casting rumors of Gosling as Ghost Rider could be another scenario from Marvel Studios where this becomes one of the big reveals in Avengers: Doomsday, which means that the actor wouldn’t be able to give a concrete yes in interviews. The “complicated” part that he refers to could very well be the fact that he is sworn to secrecy about showing up in the film.

If Ghost Rider were to be Avengers: Doomsday, it raises the question of whether he would be part of the Avengers: Secret Wars cast. Since the Phase 6 finale will be leading into a reset of the MCU, it wouldn’t be shocking to see Marvel Studios pull out the biggest list of cameos ever.

Ghost Rider hasn’t been seen in live-action since Gabriel Luna’s Robbie Reyes in Agents of SHIELD. That would give the MCU timeline at least one version of the Spirit of Vengeance to use down the line, and finally properly connect the ABC drama to the larger franchise.

Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters on December 18.
